On January 6, 2010 Molly, a one and a half year old german shepherd was rescued after being freed from a life on a chain. After a thorough investigation, no charges were filed against the owner and it was determined it was "unintentional" neglect.
Molly's story is a classic example of how chained dogs become victims of the "out of sight, out of mind" theory, leaving them to suffer and often die horrific deaths. It is estimated that approximately 196,000 dogs live their lives on chains in Iowa. There currently is no law against chaining your dog for life if they have food, water and shelter.
If you would like to help other dogs like Molly be free from a life of chains, please give to "Molly's Fund" which will provide for those companions that find themselves victims of neglect, cruelty and abuse.
